Aftercare Instructions

How are you feeling right now? Mild temporary pinkness, warmth, tingling, tightness, dryness, tenderness, itching, or light flaking can occur. Symptoms should trend better, not worse.
Do not scratch, pick, scrub, or peel the scalp.

  •  For the rest of today, keep the scalp clean and avoid touching it with unwashed hands.

  • Wait until the time your provider specified before shampooing. When cleared, use lukewarm water, a gentle shampoo, clean hands, and light pressure. Pat dry with a clean towel.

  • For 24 hours, avoid vigorous exercise, heavy sweating, saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs, swimming, and very hot showers

  • For 24 to 48 hours, avoid scrubs, exfoliating acids, retinoids, strong fragrance or essential oils, alcohol-heavy tonics, hair dye/bleach, and other irritating scalp products. Resume only when the scalp feels normal.

  • Protect exposed scalp from sun. Use shade or a clean, loose hat. Apply sunscreen only when the skin is intact and your provider says it is appropriate

  • Use only Pearl & Root-approved home-care products during the early recovery window. Stop any product that causes strong or persistent burning.

  • For the first 24 hours, keep the scalp clean, dry, and free from makeup, styling products, dry shampoo, oils, fragrances, minoxidil, medicated scalp products, or any product not specifically approved by your provider.

  • Do not wash the scalp for 24 hours unless your provider instructs otherwise. Then use lukewarm water, gentle shampoo, clean hands, and no scrubbing or scalp brush. Pat dry with a fresh towel.

  • For 48 hours, avoid strenuous exercise, heavy sweating, saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs, swimming, and very hot showers.

  • For at least 3 to 5 days, or until fully calm, avoid exfoliating acids, retinoids, strong fragrance or essential oils, alcohol-heavy tonics, hair dye/bleach, chemical straightening, and abrasive scalp treatments. Ask before restarting minoxidil or prescription/medicated products.

  • Avoid direct sun while the scalp is reactive. Use shade or a clean, loose hat. Ask your provider when to resume sunscreen on exposed areas

  • Change to a clean pillowcase tonight. Keep brushes, hats, helmets, CPAP straps, headphones, and phone surfaces clean and minimize friction or pressure over treated areas.
