FAQ

  • Why Does Pearl & Root Take a Whole Health Approach?

Healthy hair starts beneath the surface. While professional scalp therapy is an important part of hair health, it is only one piece of the puzzle.

That's why we consider the complete picture. Your treatment plan may include professional scalp care, clinical grade supplements, physician directed treatments such as PRP through our medical partners, and carefully selected topical products that support your scalp at home.

By combining in clinic treatments with evidence based home care and medical collaboration when appropriate, we help create the best possible environment for healthier hair and long term scalp wellness.

  • What is a Head Spa?

A scalp therapy treatment is a clinical service designed to improve the health of the scalp, the foundation for healthy hair. At Pearl & Root, every treatment begins with a comprehensive scalp assessment to evaluate scalp condition, buildup, oil production, hydration, follicular health, and signs of inflammation.

Based on your assessment, we perform targeted cleansing, exfoliation, hydration, circulation supporting techniques, and therapeutic scalp treatments selected for your individual needs.

Our goal is to restore a healthy scalp environment that supports stronger, healthier hair while improving overall scalp comfort and function.

  • When Should I Schedule a Scalp Consultation Instead of a Treatment?

If you're experiencing excessive shedding, noticeable thinning, persistent itching, chronic flaking, scalp discomfort, or you're unsure which treatment is right for you, we recommend beginning with a Scalp Consultation.

Your consultation allows us to evaluate your scalp, identify potential contributing factors, and recommend the most appropriate treatment plan based on your individual needs.

  • Who can benefit from a head spa treatment?

Scalp therapy is appropriate for anyone looking to improve scalp health, address common scalp concerns, or support healthier hair over time.

Treatment may be beneficial for clients experiencing:

    • excess oil or product buildup
    • dry, flaky, or dehydrated scalp
    • scalp congestion
    • itching or irritation
    • inflammation
    • dull, lifeless hair
    • early signs of hair thinning
    • reduced scalp comfort

Many clients also choose routine scalp therapy as part of a proactive scalp wellness program, even if they are not currently experiencing hair loss.

  • Is Scalp Therapy the Same as a Head Spa?

    Not exactly.

While traditional head spas primarily focus on relaxation, Pearl & Root specializes in clinical scalp therapy. Every treatment begins with a professional scalp assessment and is customized using evidence based techniques designed to improve scalp health and support healthier hair.

Our treatments combine the experience of a luxury service with a results focused clinical approach.

  • Does a head spa help with hair growth?

Healthy hair begins with a healthy scalp.

While no cosmetic treatment can guarantee hair growth, maintaining a balanced scalp environment helps support optimal follicle function. Professional cleansing, exfoliation, hydration, and circulation supporting techniques remove buildup and create conditions that allow hair follicles to perform at their best.

For clients experiencing hair loss or thinning, scalp therapy is often one component of a comprehensive treatment plan that may also include medical evaluation, nutritional support, topical therapies, or regenerative treatments.

  • How often should I get a Head Spa treatment?

Treatment frequency depends on your scalp condition and long term goals.

For general scalp maintenance, most clients benefit from treatment every four to six weeks.

Clients managing scalp concerns such as congestion, excessive oil, dryness, or irritation may initially benefit from treatments every two to four weeks before transitioning to a maintenance schedule.

Your provider will recommend a treatment plan based on your scalp analysis.

  • Can head spa treatments help with thinning hair?

Scalp therapy addresses the health of the scalp rather than treating the underlying medical causes of hair loss.

By reducing buildup, improving scalp condition, supporting circulation, and restoring the scalp barrier, treatments help create an environment that supports healthy hair growth.

Because every cause of thinning is different, we recommend beginning with a Scalp Consultation so we can identify contributing factors and develop a personalized treatment plan.

  • What happens during a scalp consultation?

Your consultation begins with a comprehensive scalp assessment using professional scalp imaging and clinical evaluation.

We examine scalp condition, buildup, oil production, follicular appearance, hydration, signs of irritation, and overall scalp health.

Following your assessment, we review your medical history, lifestyle factors, current hair care routine, and treatment goals before developing a personalized scalp care plan. Product recommendations and treatment options are tailored specifically to your scalp's needs.

  • Will the treatment make my hair oily?

    No.

Every treatment is customized to your scalp condition. Depending on your assessment, we may use clarifying, balancing, hydrating, or restorative products selected specifically for your scalp.

Most clients leave with hair that feels exceptionally clean, lighter, and easier to manage while maintaining appropriate moisture balance.

  • Can we book side-by-side treatments?

    Yes.

Our dual treatment suite allows two guests to receive scalp therapy simultaneously. Whether you're visiting with a partner, family member, or friend, each guest receives an individualized scalp assessment and treatment plan while enjoying the experience together.

  • What if I have hair extensions?

Scalp therapy is generally not performed while extensions are installed, as thorough cleansing and therapeutic scalp treatments cannot be safely completed around most extension systems.

We recommend scheduling scalp therapy before your extension installation or between maintenance appointments to maintain scalp health, reduce buildup, and support the health of your natural hair.
